Middle School Makanalani Retreat

At St. Theresa School, we strive to cultivate a learning environment that nurtures the whole child—mind, body, and spirit—through faith, academic excellence, and a strong sense of ‘ohana. Our recent excursion to Makanalani in Kilauea exemplified this mission by providing learners with an immersive experience that strengthened their connection to nature, deepened their faith, and fostered personal growth in a truly remarkable way.

Makanalani Kids is dedicated to offering life-changing camps at no cost to youth who may not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in such experiences. Their commitment to fostering personal development through collaboration, formative experiences, and an enriching environment aligns seamlessly with the values we uphold at St. Theresa School. This excursion allowed our learners to step outside of their daily routines and engage in an experience that encouraged self-discovery, gratitude, and an appreciation for the power of faith and service.

During their time at Makanalani, our learners had the opportunity to feed the animals, embark on a thrilling night hike, and enjoy a fun-filled water slide adventure. They gathered in welcoming spaces to build new friendships, share in meaningful discussions, and create lasting memories. Whether roasting marshmallows under the night sky, playing together in open spaces, or engaging in moments of reflection, our learners experienced the joy of community in a setting designed to inspire and uplift.

Since 1946, St. Theresa School has remained steadfast in its commitment to shaping tomorrow’s leaders by providing a strong academic and spiritual foundation. While our classrooms lay the groundwork for academic achievement, experiences like Makanalani extend learning beyond textbooks, allowing learners to apply their knowledge, faith, and values in real-world settings. This journey reinforced the importance of community, stewardship, and reflection—lessons that will remain with them throughout their lives.
